Our work from home positions require heavy phone communication with customers, utilizing a wide variety of software tools to navigate customer accounts, problem solving skills and the ability to communicate effective solutions. We are seeking individuals with previous customer service experience, possessing the ability to quickly navigate various applications simultaneously on their computer. A quiet home office space, free of distraction, is required.

General Requirements

  • A home office environment that is quiet and free from distraction.
  • A PC that meets the requirements of the Home Agent platform.
  • See "Technical Requirements" below to learn more.
  • High speed Internet access (DSL or Cable only).
  • An Internet Service Provider that Supplies 2 or more IP addresses OR an Internet Service Provider that supplies 1 IP address and is connected to a router.
  • Employees working as Remote Agents are required to have and maintain one (1) dedicated internet connection. Popular gaming systems, Smartphones, and any portable device that may use wireless connections within the home must be turned off prior to and during scheduled shift hours.
  • An approved analog headset.
  • A telephone* with a mute button to be utilized during training, team meetings, and individual coaching and technical support sessions.
  • Power Bar/Surge Protector that is UL 1449 Recognized -- This will assist in protecting equipment plugged into the power bar, in the event of an electrical storm or power surge.

*Please note all monthly telephone and internet charges are the responsibility of the employee and are not reimbursed by Convergys.

Environment, Physical & Other Requirements

  • Ability to perform light hand activity work at a computer/telephone station in a home office environment.
  • Position is primarily sedentary.

Technical Requirements

You will be asked to test your computer as part of the application process. In addition to submitting an on-line application, you will need to supply your own work equipment to enable you to work from home, including:

  • A home computer that meets Convergys' PC specifications. See "Convergys' PC specifications" below to learn more.
  • You will be required to provide an approved USB Flash Drive
  • An approved analog headset
  • High-speed Internet access that meets Convergys' Internet specifications. See "Convergys' Internet specifications" below to learn more. Convergys recruiters will assist qualified candidates in assessing Internet access as part of the application and hiring process.
  • Must have an available USB 2.0 port with all unnecessary peripheral items ( i.e. cameras, printers, game controllers, webcams, etc.) removed during work hours.
  • USB 3.0 ports are not supported. Please refer to your PC owners' manual or manufacturer's website to assist you to identify which ports are 2.0 vs. 3.0 on your personal computer.
  • UPS or Surge Protector -- This will assist in protecting equipment plugged into the power bar, in the event of an electrical storm or power surge.
  • A telephone with a mute button (All monthly telephone and internet charges are the responsibility of the employee and are not reimbursed by Convergys.)
  • PC must have a vendor manufactured date less than six years in age as some older models are not compatible with our secure environment (Example: If today's date is 1/1/2012, the PC manufacture date should be no older than 1/1/2006)
  • The following machines cannot be supported at this time:
    • Apple Mac & Macbooks -- all models
    • eMachine EL1352 and EL1352G
    • Acer Aspire Z3101
    • Acer Aspire X3400G
    • Hewlett-Packard 120-1126

Convergys' Internet Specifications

To effectively accommodate the Convergys Remote Agent Virtual Environment, you will need to have your Internet access provided by a cable or DSL provider. (Wireless or satellite broadband does not work effectively with our system and therefore does not meet our requirements).

  • Convergys requires certain speeds for uploading and downloading data:
    • Minimum upload speed of 500 kbps (.5mbps)
    • Minimum download speed of 1500 kbps (1.5 mbps)

Once you submit your application on-line, you may be contacted by a Convergys recruiter who will assist qualified candidates with an assessment of their Internet access capabilities to ensure they meet the Convergys Home Agent requirements.

To successfully operate on the Convergys Home Agent network, you will need to connect your PC to a wired router, such as those sold under the brand names Belkin, Linksys, Netgear, and D-Link.

Convergys' PC Specifications

  • 3.0 GHZ Processor (minimum of a Pentium 4 processor or equivalent processor running at a clock speed of 3.0 GHZ)
  • 2 GB of RAM for Windows XP, Vista users* or Windows 7 users
  • 12 GB of Available Hard drive space
  • PC must have a vendor manufactured date less than six years in age as some older models are not compatible with our secure environment (Example: If today's date is 1/1/2012, the PC manufacture date should be no older than 1/1/2006)

Additional equipment requirements include:

  • Monitor - 17" minimum (capable of 1024 x 768), Flat Panel Display highly recommended, no televisions used as monitors
  • An approved analog headset
  • Must have an available USB 2.0 port with all unnecessary peripheral items ( i.e. cameras, printers, game controllers, webcams, etc.) removed during work hours.
  • USB 3.0 ports are not supported. Please refer to your PC owners' manual or manufacturer's website to assist you to identify which ports are 2.0 vs. 3.0 on your personal computer.
  • No Wireless Devices, i.e. headset, keyboard, mouse
  • Telephone with a mute button available during all scheduled work hours to be used during training, team meetings and feedback sessions (All monthly telephone and internet charges are the responsibility of the employee and are not reimbursed by Convergys.)
  • Wired router - such as those sold under the brand names Belkin, Linksys, Netgear and D-Link

Computer Software requirements include:

  • One of the following Windows Operating Systems
    • Windows XP
    • Windows Vista
    • Windows 7
    • Windows 8 OS
  • Internet Explorer 6.0 SP2 or better
  • Minimum Windows Media Player 9.0*
  • Adobe Flash player plug-in version 9.0 or above installed*
  • Minimum Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0*

*You can get the latest versions of Adobe Flash player and Adobe Acrobat Reader FREE at the Adobe site www.adobe.com. You can also get the latest version of Windows Media Player for FREE from www.microsoft.com.

PLEASE NOTE

You must apply from the same PC/system from which you plan to work if hired as a Convergys Home Agent. During the application process, your PC will be validated to ensure that it meets the minimum system requirements.

If a position is offered as a result of this application, Convergys will verify that your PC is the same or superior to the one used during the application process.

No. This is not a scam; it is a legitimate career opportunity. Convergys does not charge you to become an employee of the company. If you meet the necessary computer and Internet connectivity requirements, you will be eligible to be a Home Agent.

"Work from home" common myths

Everybody has their own idea of what "working from home" means. Here are some common myths:

  • I can work my hours whenever I want.
  • I can put my customer on hold while I run to the refrigerator to grab a quick snack.
  • I can DVR my favorite shows and watch them while I work.
  • I can watch my kids while I work.
  • I can take the dog out for a quick walk.
  • I can fold laundry while I talk to customers.

Although we appreciate the individual who can multi-task, our Home Agents must portray the utmost in professionalism while on the phone. We cannot allow any typical home background noises to come across the phone line while speaking with customers. Successful Home Agents must be computer savvy, comfortable navigating between several systems simultaneously. Your shift times, including break/lunch times, will be assigned to you. You will have the flexibility to be hired into the particular window of time and shift time that you are looking to work. Some folks truly do prefer late night hours and split shifts.

  • We have day shifts, evening shifts and even overnight shifts.
  • Agents work 8 or 8.5 hour shifts. Full time equates to 40 hours with many programs offering overtime hours.
  • Part time schedules are 4-6 hour shifts, equating to 25-30 hours per week and also allow for overtime hours.

Compensation

Our Home Agent Customer Service positions pay $9.00 per hour. The Sales & Service Rep positions also pay a base rate of $9.00 per hour but have a sales incentive program which allows Home Agents to earn additional income for the sales they make.
